A virtual room of errors for healthcare training

Enter a hospital room, observe the objects and decide whether each situation needs correcting. ScenaCare's room of errors turns this simulation exercise into a browser-based activity, followed by a debrief with an educator.

Who is it for? Nursing students, healthcare assistant trainees, care teams, educators and quality and patient safety professionals.

Observe before deciding

Room 108 belongs to a fictional patient who is temporarily away for an examination. No care procedure is underway. The learner explores the room and clicks on objects to examine them. Items are not highlighted in advance: observation is part of the exercise.

The scenario includes eight situations to correct and three items without an error. It covers the bed environment, access to the call button, movement around the room, identification and situations involving hygiene or medication safety. Answers are reviewed at the end, without revealing corrections during exploration.

An exercise in three stages

Briefing

Introduce the context and instructions. The group knows what to observe and how to answer, without being given a list of errors to find.

Exploration

For each object examined, choose whether it needs correcting or nothing is wrong. Answers can be changed, and the notebook keeps track of observations during the session.

Debrief

With the educator, revisit situations that were noticed or missed and items correctly left unchanged. Connect the explanations to your institution's procedures.

Try room 108

The demo lets you explore the room and see how the exercise works. It runs on a computer in a compatible browser, with no software installation or virtual reality headset.

Prepare the session with your team

Before a session, the educator explores the scenario, prepares discussion points and checks how they relate to local practice. The activity can be completed individually, in pairs or projected for a group. Planning time for the debrief is part of preparing the workshop.

This experience is a training activity using fictional situations and identities. It provides an opportunity to practise observation and discuss patient safety; the educator supplies explanations and references suited to their institution.
